Tim Spicer, OBE - Author and Founder of Aegis Defence Services

Tim Spicer, OBE is a former British Army officer and prominent figure in the private military sector. Educated at Sherborne School and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he served in the Scots Guards from 1970 to 1994, participating in conflicts such as the Falklands War, the Gulf War, and operations in Northern Ireland and the Balkans.

After retiring from the military, Spicer founded Sandline International, a private military company involved in operations in Papua New Guinea and Sierra Leone. In 2002, he founded Aegis Defence Services, which he grew to become one of the world’s largest private military companies, assisting western forces with security operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Spicer authored "An Unorthodox Soldier" (2000), detailing his military experiences and the complexities of private military work. His later works include "A Dangerous Enterprise" (2021) and "A Suspicion of Spies" (2024), a biography of spymaster Wilfred 'Biffy' Dunderdale.
