Her Excellency, Dr Iruthisham Adam, Maldives High Commissioner to the UK

 

Her Excellency, Dr Iruthisham Adam is the High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to the UK. She has held key positions in the Maldivian Government as the Minister of Health from 2015 - 2016 and Minister of Youth and Sports from 2016 - 2018.

Upon her appointment as the Permanent Representative/ Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Offices in Geneva (UNOG) in October 2009, she made history as the first female from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be appointed as an Ambassador. During her tenure as Permanent Representative to UNOG, Her Excellency Iruthisham Adam also held the position of Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the World Trade Organization and Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Switzerland from 2009-2014.

She was the first Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Germany, Italy and Turkey while residing in Geneva. In 2013, she was elected as the Vice President of the UN Human Rights Council. In 2010, she was elected as the Vice Chairperson of the State Parties Conferences on the UN Committee on Convention Against Torture.
