Sir William Browder – CEO of Hermitage Capital and leading human rights activist

 

Sir William Browder is a leading human rights activist, author and CEO of Hermitage Capital Management.

He was the largest foreign investor in Russia until 2005, with $4.5 billion under management, when he was denied entry to the country and declared “a threat to national security” for exposing corruption in Russian state-owned companies.

After his lawyer and friend Sergei Magnitsky was killed in 2008, he sought justice, leading a global campaign to pass ‘The Magnitsky Act’. The act seeks to sanction human rights abusers and corrupt government officials globally and has been adopted by 35 countries worldwide.

Sir William is the author of two New York Times bestselling books; Red Notice and Freezing Order which detail his experiences investing in Russia and subsequent global human rights campaign.
